Board of Directors Governance Principles and Leadership Tenets

Focus on governance, not management. We spend our time on strategy, fundraising and major policy decisions, and we empower the Executive Director to function as the CEO of the organization.

Act with a high degree of integrity. We build trust through transparency, responsiveness, follow-through and ownership. We honor our commitments and demonstrate accountability in all we do.

Evangelize our program and have a deep understanding of the Youth in Focus mission, history and program. We act as connectors in the community, recognizing opportunities to tell our story among audiences big and small.

Show up for our students and one another. We attend at least one EOQ show each quarter, come prepared for open discussion at each Board meeting, actively participate in subcommittees, make class visits to see our mission in action and prioritize the needs of the organization.

Grow our funding and resources, and govern finances. We lean in to fundraising, seek out new funding opportunities, and nurture donor relationships. We foster understanding and inspire passion for our program to win support from donors, influencers and the community.  We make a meaningful personal donation every year.  We understand and are conversant in the financial health of the organization.

Champion the success of our Board through resources, training and development tools. We recognize that everyone contributes to a culture of success and we offer our experience and expertise to strengthen the organization and board.

Evaluate our performance and efficacy through clear goal setting and measurement. We evolve our strategy based on qualitative and quantitative data and feedback.
