I titled my statement ‘Nostalgia’ because I feel that looking at these pictures, in the future, I will feel nostalgic pieces of my childhood. Having these photos as physical copies feels as if I have the memory in my hands. I would like to thank Youth in Focus for helping me blossom my creativity and photography skills. I am truly grateful for this opportunity.
This is a picture I took at Pike Place Market. While walking around, I noticed a piece of tape on the floor, so I went down and took a picture of it. I feel this photo gives me a dreamy or retro feeling, similar to others I have taken, but it is a bit darker than others. I guess I just like to find things people don't use. I like to get a view from different angles.
I chose this photo because when I was younger I would always look out the car window and see this large clock and always wondered about it, so to be able to be so close to the clock in person was a full circle moment and it reminded me of younger me. A cool fact about this clock is it was the tallest structure in Seattle when it was built.
My photo is about my clothes, I made the shirt and pants I was wearing, I have been sewing and making clothes for a while. I'm in my room standing behind screen print transfers that I put on my wall.
My photo captures a scene at Pike Place. The subject at first is the sign or the buildings, but when you look closer you see many more subjects. I was trying to show how many little moments can exist within one picture. For example, the couple across the street hugging and then the man standing next to them are living completely different lives and going to completely different places. The more you look at the picture, the more details you see beyond the obvious setting. I think this really represents my photography style because I like capturing moments and feelings.
My photo is about the craziness in my mind. The overwhelming thoughts that you feel take over. It's about your confusion or all of your mistakes. I feel like this picture represents the “unknown” that can drive you crazy.
At first, I didn’t want the plate to be shown in the photo, but after looking at it more and editing it I ended up liking this picture with the plate a lot more than the others.
I think it creates a really cool border splitting my body in two. It looks like my legs are getting distorted or sucked into somewhere unknown.
I took this photo because I thought this was a great example of leading lines but taking a deeper look into this picture can expose the significant love between two people. The lights leading to the two people instantly made me think of the title “Leads of Love”. Me decreasing the brightness and shadows allowed the photo to create a shadow look and made the main focus the lights and the people which was my intent.
