Hello, im Sarai, this is my third class at youth in focus and my first darkroom class. Taking darkroom for the first time has been a completely different experience from digital. Throughout this class i’ve become more patient and forgiving with my work, and i’ve learned to work with with what I have. In my previous photography work, i’ve always focused on portraits of people because I like how you can capture someone’s essence. But in my work with darkroom, I realized that I take photos to humanize things (meaning making them more relatable and emotion holding). I hope you can see these themes i’ve put into my photos and that you can feel the emotion my images hold. :3
My name is Sarai and I am a multimedia artist. This is my first photography class taken here at Youth in focus. Throughout my work, in photography, drawing and other forms of art, I try to include people in some shape or form. I like to include people in my work because I feel like they can tell a story through expression, posture, activities, etc. With my photography, I want to share a perspective that is not often seen or heard. My final photo is a picture of my friend Maya on a swing. I love this photo because of the mystery and imagination it makes me feel. The scenery, composition, and expression show that sense of imagination and almost wonderland-like feeling. I try to include this pleasant expression/feeling in my work as a common theme.

Hello, my name is sarai s. I am a multimedia artist and photographer. I use photography as a tool to communicate through my subjects. I believe that every photo has a story, and a journey, much like people. In my art, I've noticed that a lot of my photos show common ideas, like vulnerability, and sorrow. Throughout these classes with youth in focus, I've discovered that I really love taking portraits, because I feel like they show often unnoticed sides of people. I take photos because I want others to look at them and feel seen, I want them to beable to relate to my images and the emotions they hold.
