My name is Betty (she/her), I did the darkroom class this quarter, and I used a 35 mm film camera. I've been inspired by many portraits I've seen throughout my life, but mostly by Mary Randlett. Many of her portraits are displayed in my grandma's senior home, and I see them whenever I visit her.
This photo is of one of my favorite people, in one of my favorite places, my friend Sam at my school's garden. To me it feels very calm and familiar. I feel like it really represents me as a person, even though it’s a portrait of someone else.
My name is Betty and this is my 2nd class with youth in focus. My main picture is of my friend Tally, I took it on a photowalk to the park. I have a big interest in portraits, and I love it when a picture really captures the essence of a person. I loved the way she looked in this, and I also love how it feels to know a person well enough that you can capture their personality and energy through something as 2D as a photograph. I am also obsessed with color and I think my whole series really shows that.
My name is Betty, I’m 17 years old, and this is my 4th class with youth in focus. My goal was to take soft, focused, portraits of things that aren’t people; I love nature a lot and I especially love the up close details. This self portrait was taken by accident, but I like how you can see the posters on my wall.
Hi my name is Betty, I’m 16, and this is my third youth in focus class. My theme for my photos is a dreamy and cinematic feel, almost like a film still.
The lighthouse photo is what most felt like a movie to me, I was very inspired by Wes Anderson and wanted to achieve the same level of symmetry in my work.
