My name is Tally (Natalia), I use She/Her pronouns. I would consider myself an artist, specifically self taught. I don't often enjoy being criticized or told how to do art, I much prefer being able to figure it out on my own. After my first Youth In Focus class I realized the importance of learning from and sharing other’s knowledge. I appreciate the materials and resources youth in focus offers, and I can't wait for next quarter!
This quarter I started using film for the first time. After experimenting with all the techniques I could use with film, I discovered how much I enjoy taking portraits. This image is a portrait of one of my closest friends, Azura.
My name is Tally La., this is my third class with YIF. Over this time I have learned so much valuable information and I can't thank the staff enough.
This photo was taken at the Des Moines Marina.
Credits to Azura for the self portrait photo.

This quarter I continued to focus on photographing the punk community within seattle. I shot both bands and attendees at multiple hardcore shows across Seattle, and have learned I prefer shooting behind the scenes, and focusing on the community, rather than the bands themselves.
This specific image is of someone in the venue bathroom being pierced, this event caused me to meet a bunch of new friends as I documented the experience.
Originally, I had intended to photograph the DIY music scene and alternative subcultures within Seattle. I attended shows, I took photos, and when I got my film back, the photos came out as unintentional light paintings. I still feel as though the photos represent the feeling of the punk scene in Seattle, although not shown on the surface.
My name is Natalia or Tally. I was born and raised in Washington state and have lived there since. I would consider myself a self taught artist with the occasional attempt at an art class, which i hate. Youth in Focus has been one of the only art programs I have thoroughly enjoyed!! I usually cannot stand being told how to express myself but this class gave me the freedom to do as I please. I would say I work with mixed media, mostly water based pens and markers and line art. Photography was a huge step out of my typical art boundary but I hope i get more chances to do it in the future too.
